Digital
Streaming Video (DSV) - What is DSV?
|
•
Traditional video as displayed on a TV monitor is analog
signal. Only TV cameras and certain CCD such as Gatan
DualVision camera can generate analog video signal. Analog
video signal is subject to detector’s cosmetic limitations.
• Digital streaming video (DSV) is widely used in
webcast (webcam) applications and can be viewed or captured
by Microsoft NetMeeting or other commercial video Capture/Edit
software.

European camera users school 2004
|
|
|
The
2004 Gatan European Camera Users School (December) was hosted
by the EM unit of the Institute of Biotechnology, University
of Helsinki. The combination of lectures in the morning
and “hands-on” laboratory sessions with cameras
and TEMs in the afternoon proved, once again, to be successful
for the three-day program. In addition, images collected
during microscope sessions and scripted exercises were timetabled
using off-line PCs. Attendees were able to appreciate all
aspects of image collection, optimization, manipulation,
processing and analysis using Gatan DigitalMicrograph software.

Back
to School!
2005 Gatan microscopy training schools and workshops
|
|
Gatan
Microscopy Training Schools offer microscopists extensive
and comprehensive education and laboratory training on the
latest TEM and SEM specimen preparation, in-situ probing,
digital imaging, and EELS imaging and analysis. The instructors
are highly trained and experienced scientists and experts
in their fields. Each school offers a unique, interactive
curriculum combining both classroom teaching and laboratory
practicals. It is a relaxed, casual atmosphere where students
interact with instructors in small group settings and discuss
daily topics over lunch. As are Gatan’s scientists
and customers, school participants are international, with
broad microscopy backgrounds and skills.

APR Nanofactory Workshop
|
The
2005 Gatan APR Nanofactory Workshop was held on March
15-16, 2005 at Beijing University in China. Approximately
35 participants from China, Taiwan, Korea, and Singapore
attended the Nanofactory Workshop. Dr. Oleg Lourie, Product
Specialist from Gatan, Inc. (Pleasanton, USA), introduced
the Nanofactory products including the latest release
of the TEM-Nanoindenter. His presentation, corroborated
with numerous application examples, captured the attention
of the participants.

TEM-Nanoindentor:
New In-situ Holder from Nanofactory Instruments
and Gatan
|
In
March 2005, Nanofactory Instruments and Gatan, Inc. introduced
a new TEM holder for in situ Nanoindentation:
the TEM-Nanoindentor SA2000.N. The system is designed
to perform in situ analyses on the mechanical
properties of nanomaterials. It combines the power of
high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM) utilized to
monitor deformations with the precise measurements of
forces and stresses imposed on the nanostructure. Its
design makes complex, cutting edge in situ experiments
on mechanical properties of various nanomaterials simple
and straightforward.
