Webinar: Addressing Data Challenges for Cryo-Electron Microscopy

Since the introduction of direct electron detectors, the resolution and range of macromolecules amenable to cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has significantly widened. The scientific possibilities are extremely promising, as evidenced by the recent Nobel Prize in Chemistry, but owning a state-of-the-art microscope and direct electron detector is not enough. As the volume of high-resolution data created by these instruments grows, data transfer, storage, and analysis will be a challenge for labs that have not given appropriate consideration to data management. This presentation will address the challenges encountered when implementing application pipelines supporting automation and analysis of cryo-EM data and the underlying computational infrastructure that enables stable operation of a cryo-EM facility. Please join DDN Storage and Gatan for an opportunity to hear from Charles Bowman, a Bioinformatics Analyst in the laboratory of Andrew Ward at The Scripps Research Institute, who is actively managing this infrastructure on a daily basis, as well as ask questions in this interactive one-hour session.
