New Gatan President Tom Connelly Returns

After a highly successful seven year tenure as Gatan's President and Chief Executive Officer, Bob Buchanan relinquished his post at the end of June 2005. But Bob is not leaving Gatan. He will be responsible for New Business Development.

The new President of Gatan Inc. and also of the Advanced Microscopy Group (AMG) is a familiar face: Tom Connelly. After spending many years in biomedical research and teaching at the University of Michigan, Tom went into the business world in Product Management with a major microscope manufacturer in the USA and was active in the confocal microscopy and image analysis markets. After joining Gatan in 1995 as Director of Sales and Service NAFTA and Asia, Tom progressed to the position of Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing and Executive Vice President. In the Fall of 2003 Tom joined Photometrics as President and has been driving the growth of Photometrics in the Life Sciences marketplace. The formation of the Advanced Microscopy Group within Roper Industries Imaging and Analytical Instruments Division gives Tom the chance to help develop synergies between the companies in that group (Gatan, Photometrics and QImaging) and to further enhance the ability of each company to meet customer needs for solutions in imaging and analysis.
