December 28, 2007
Date: December 28, 2007From: Tom Connelly, President
To: Our Valued Customers
Subject: New Facility in Pleasanton
Thanks to all our valued customers and sales partners for another great year! Your support of
Gatan, Inc. and the entire Microimaging Applications Group (MAG) has encouraged us to move to a
larger facility in Pleasanton, California.
The photos at the end of this letter show a portion of the Pleasanton building and some of our 400+
worldwide employee base. The new site houses many important operations, including engineering
and marketing for both Gatan and the Microimaging Applications Group. Our manufacturing facilities,
meanwhile, are located in Warrendale, Pennsylvania; Abingdon, England; and Surrey, Canada,
which is also home to the service/support team for QImaging and Photometrics cameras. EMCCD
camera engineering resources are located in Tucson, Arizona, and key software development
resources are located in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as in Pleasanton.
We have international sales/marketing and service/support offices in the United Kingdom; Évry,
France; Munich, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Shanghai, China; and Singapore.
Our extensive network of distributors and sales channel partners spans the world.
Exciting new products from the Microimaging Applications Group include the MAG Biosystems
FRAP-3D™, a system for fluorescence recovery after photobleaching; the MAG Biosystems
Lumazone™, a system for chemiluminescence and fluorescence macroscopic imaging; the
Photometrics QuantEM™, the only EMCCD camera in the world that delivers true quantitative
stability across 16 bits via stabilized gain and bias; the Photometrics Cascade® II, a deeply cooled
16-bit EMCCD camera; the QImaging Retiga-EXL, a value-priced CCD camera for low-light, highspeed
imaging; the Gatan FASTCAM Model 830, a CCD camera that provides outstanding
sensitivity and image quality at video frame rates; and IQbase™ 2.5, the latest release of Media
Cybernetics’ popular object-oriented data management software package.
If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, we invite you to come and visit us at 5794 W. Las Positas
Blvd., Pleasanton, CA 94588. This new facility provides nearly 40,000 square feet of office and lab
space, including a fully equipped TEM/SEM specimen prep lab, two 200-keV TEMs, two SEMs
capable of x-ray microscopy and 3View™ 3D serial block-face image acquisition, a low-light-level
microscopy lab for fluorescence microscopy and FRAP, and a 600-square-foot classroom for inhouse
customer training courses that will be offered on a wide range of product technologies
beginning in 2008.
By calling ahead to arrange a visit, we can make sure that you are able to meet with a number of our
key employees to engage in technical, scientific, or business discussions.
We look forward to seeing you!
