626 Single Tilt Cryotransfer System
An integrated system with the features you want
in a cryostage:
Excellent high-resolution performance
Robust and easy to use
Rapid, frost-free transfer
Precise temperature control
Innovative holder designs
Complete solutions for cryo-TEM
High resolution performance requires the best stability:
From its conception in 1980, Dr. Peter Swann designed
a precision machined, fully-integrated system to ensure
high-resolution performance for the life sciences.
Unlike other commercial models, the entire tip of
the cryoholder is cooled, not just the specimen cradle.
As a result, temperature gradients around the specimen
are small, drift is minimal and specimen temperature
is stable and easily monitored.
Robust and easy to use for beginner or expert:
The system provides the environment and the tools
to make transfer fast, easy and successful for beginners
and experienced users alike. A lightweight aluminum
Workstation keeps the holder secure during cooldown,
sample loading, and transfer of the holder to the
TEM. All critical parts of the specimen holder are
manufactured to exacting tolerances and rigorously
tested in our production plant. Gatan's trademark
Clipring swiftly locks a frozen grid in place
for the best thermal contact - you know when it clicks
that your sample is safely clamped . Operating at
temperatures between 90°C and -180°C, the
900 SmartSet Cold Stage Controller is designed to
adjust and monitor the holder temperature by the touch
of a few simple controls.
Everything you need for rapid, frost-free transfer:
Gatan technology made frost-free transfer possible
with the introduction of the cryoshield in 1980, and
we have continued to provide new concepts to preserve
sample integrity. The one-piece cryoshield is controlled
externally by the operator, who can close the shutter
during transfer to prevent sample frosting, then open
it to begin an imaging session. During specimen loading,
the holder tip inserts into the Workstation's liquid
nitrogen well, surrounding the frozen grid in a protective
dry nitrogen gas atmosphere. Fast, secure grid clamping
with Cliprings keeps good thermal contact between
the holder and sample. A four-specimen grid holder
and specimen transfer tool for grid handling and storage
come with each transfer system.
Temperature stability and control for consistent
results:
The Gatan approach of cooling the complete specimen
holder tip provides sufficient thermal mass, insulation
and mechanical strength for reliable and consistent
performance. The calibrated silicon chip temperature
sensor precisely monitors the specimen temperature.
A copper conductor between the specimen holder tip
and the liquid-nitrogen dewar serves two functions:
it forms the cooling pathway, and the integral heater
permits adjustment of the specimen temperature over
a range of 90°C to -196°C. Extended liquid-nitrogen
hold times and minimal boiling are guaranteed by the
vacuum insulation of the aluminum-copper dewar.
