ULTRASCAN™

Setting a new Reference Standard in TEM imaging systems

The UltraScan™ family is the first digital camera system that could signal the end of the use of film as a recording medium in the TEM. New technology has been introduced at every stage of the imaging process to improve resolution, signal generation and collection, lower noise characteristics and speed of operation. The UltraScan family shares a compact mechanical design for bottom mount CCD cameras with full retraction capability and complete compatibility with GIF Tridiem and ENFINA™ spectrometers.

In both concept and execution, these digital cameras represent the finest expression of engineering skills and innovation available in a TEM imaging system.

UltraScan™ 4000

The UltraScan™ 4000 is designed to deliver an awesome 16 Megapixel resolution and operation up to 400kV. The camera is Peltier cooled and offers full 16 bit dynamic range in the image. Gatan set out to design this camera with one thought in mind: to deliver more. More pixels, more resolution, more speed and the very highest quality available.

Combining the large format CCD with multi-channel readout (First Light™ electronics) means that high resolution and usability are a reality. The UltraScan 4000 is a showcase of firsts. First to use HCR™ optical technology, first to combine a large format CCD with multi-channel readout and first to offer a retractable camera that is compatible with GIF and ENFINA™ analytical spectrometers. Razor sharp images are guaranteed with this imaging system.

This digital camera is the first to truly challenge film as an image recording medium. As the flagship of the Gatan imaging range, the UltraScan 4000 sets a new reference standard for TEM digital imaging.

UltraScan™ Reference and Standard Series

The UltraScan™ Reference Series includes the UltraScan™ 4000 (Model 895, 4k x 4k) and the UltraScan™ 1000 (Model 894, 2k x 2k). The UltraScan™ Standard series includes only the UltraScan™ 4000SP (Model 890, 4k x 4k). The UltraScan™ Reference and Standard series have identical optical and mechanical construction. Both, therefore, have identical image resolution (optical performance). Key differences between the two series are:
• CCD electronics, speed and readout noise performance;
• Computer interface for data acquisition;
• Dynamic range
Please consult the specifications below for more details comparing the UltraScan™ 4000 and 4000SP.

UltraScan™ 1000

The Ultrascan™ 1000 is a 4 megapixel digital camera. Utilizing the same HCR™ optical technology, mechanical housing and First Light electronics as the US 4000 reference series, this camera offers extraordinary resolution and read out speed.

A new, second generation CCD sensor, with multi-channel output, guarantees a price-performance combination that is difficult to match. Designed for demanding users who set their sights on a higher level of digital imaging, the UltraScan 1000 blends the best available technology, convenient operation and versatility, in a cost-effective package.
