FCS Field Cancelling Systems
FCS, field cancelling systems will improve the performance of electronic instruments which are sensitive to magnetic fields, such as SEMs, TEMs and Imaging Filters.
A standard FCS comprises a Magnetic Field Control Unit, Magnetic Field Sensor and three (X, Y & Z) cable loops. The FCS works by producing a compensating field of the correct amplitude, phase and direction to cancel the ambient field.

FCS22 operates over a frequency range of 0.5Hz to 5000Hz which will compensate for most sources of field interference e.g. from electrical power sources and rotating machinery.
FCS20W provides effective field reduction over an even wider frequency range, from DC to 5000Hz.
In addition to power frequency sources, FCS20W will also compensate for very low frequency effects from moving metal objects, such as elevators and vehicles.
There may also be high local DC field levels due to the proximity of large magnet systems.
Options include additional sensors to allow compensation of large field gradients and Helmholtz cable sets for rooms with several field-sensitive instruments or for TEMs fitted with Gatan Imaging Filters.
