Tell us about exciting developments at your facility. Yet more evidence that CL has come of age as
an analytical tool

Cathodoluminescence has now come of age as an analytical tool - JEOL UK requested that our MonoCL3 imaging and spectroscopy system was shown as a standard option on the JSM6460 scanning electron microscope exhibited at ICEM in Durban, South Africa.

Microtest 200 added to range

We have added the Microtest 200 tensile module to our range of dynamic stages for SEM. The new stage has the option of a large number of sensitive load cells enabling it to measure to an accuracy of 0.02N.

Listening to customers - new dual fuel option

By listening to customers, Gatan UK heard of the difficulties and/or expense of obtaining liquid helium in some countries. Our new "dual fuel" option allows liquid helium cold stages (for SEM ) to be operated with either cold nitrogen gas or liquid helium. This is available with new systems, or as an add-on.

Syngenta - leading company uses leading Gatan technique

Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness operating across all important areas of crop protection and seeds. Syngenta uses our ALTO 2500 Cryo SEM system to study the detailed effect of crop protection products on leaf surfaces as it allows the company to image and analyse biological and chemical specimens without either dehydrating the leaves or damaging these beam and vacuum-sensitive samples.

It's Trivia - but do you know-how?

If you've got an interesting or unusual trivia question - whether you know the answer or not - send it in and we will ask KnowHow readers for their solutions. There will be a prize for the best entry!

To start with, do you know why light, which has travelled in a straight line from the sun, spreads out through a large hole in a cloud as if it were a point source just above the cloud?

And do you know why bathroom scales give a higher reading on a carpet than they do on a hard surface (as much as several kilograms difference)?
