Live
Colour Cathodoluminescence Imaging in the Scanning
Electron Microscope
ChromaCL™ is an unique product offering live colour cathodoluminescence
(CL) imaging in the SEM. ChromaCL™ operates using the principles
of efficient light collection from the specimen, dispersion onto an array
detector, and live colour mixing of the channels which are measured simultaneously.
For specimens which luminesce at various wavelengths, ChromaCL™
provides a powerful imaging technique. The single scan colour image acquisition
opens new doors to CL studies on geological specimens, beam sensitive
materials and even biological applications, traditionally reliant on optical
techniques.
ChromaCL™ uses DigiScan™, Gatan's powerful 2nd generation
Digital Beam Control system for control of the scan and signal inputs.
ChromaCL™ is suitable for most SEMs and Microprobes with suitable
port access, external scan control, and sufficient beam current to stimulate
colourful CL in the specimen.

| ChromaCL™ is designed
and manufactured with both user friendliness
and flexibility in mind. Once the mirror
is inserted to a set position, and the
specimen is at the correct working distance,
a single mouse click of the DigiScan™
search, preview, or record button is all
that is needed to acquire a colour CL
with an SE image.
For advanced users alternative dispersion,
channel grouping and software mixing can
be configured and applied to enhance the
versatility of the technique and provide
false colour imaging ideal for specific
specimens. |

Software |
ChromaCL™ software allows the user
to specify alternative signal inputs to colour
mixing channels. In this way the software is
flexible and the colour features are not limited
to CL pulse maps. Colour channels can be ascribed
to other suitable analogue or pulse inputs.
