Overview

This course is designed to train new users on how to operate the Centar Frontier, an automated, computer controlled specimen preparation instrument for delayering and site specific SEM and TEM preparation. This 2-day course will provide users with practical education and hands-on training on advanced specimen preparation techniques for challenging applications. Users will learn step-by-step procedures for various applications that will take them from sample to final result.

  • 3D alignment procedures
  • Alternatives in target selection and how to overcome light microscopy limitations
  • Process/recipe principle, development and adjustments
  • On-line, integrated process monitoring mechanism
  • Unique bevel and double bevel polishing techniques
  • Site specific cross-section for SEM analysis
  • TEM sample preparation for PIPS or FIB
  • Hands-free delayering process

Format

This 2-day course includes a product overview, presentations on operating procedures and techniques, and extensive hands-on demonstrations. When registering online for the 2-day course, please select either the April 29-30 dates or the May 1-2 dates. These are the same course.

An optical microscope, FEI Quanta 600F, and Hitachi S 3400N will be available to view and analyze prepared samples. Each student will receive a course binder with the presentations, salient references, and product information.

Gatan reserves the right to cancel any Gatan school due to low enrollment or for any other reason, at any time.

Payment

To arrange payment of the registration fee for each school, please contact your local Gatan Sales office to complete your registration. For a listing of local offices, click here.

A completed school registration form and confirmed payment are required to secure your place in the school. The school registration fee includes all educational materials, daily breakfast and lunch at the Gatan Research and Development Facility, a certificate of completion, and a celebration dinner. Travel, accommodations, and other meals are not included.

Accommodations

Course participants are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements. Gatan recommends the Larkspur Landing Hotel, which is approximately 1.3 miles from Gatan. Gatan school participants receive a preferred rate of $106 USD/night (Studio Suite) and free 5 mile shuttle service. We recommend making reservations at least 30 days before the first day of the school. Please mention that you are a “Gatan visitor” when you make your reservations.
