SEM Specimen Preparation
Gatan Inc. School Fee: $1,275.00 US Dollars; or $1,700.00 US when taken with TEM Specimen Preparation Overview A course designed to teach a new method for preparing high-quality SEM and Light Microscopy specimens using an ion beam etching technique. This 3-day course is intended to offer users an alternative/replacement method to the traditional "wet" chemical etching technique used to decorate SEM samples. Attention will be given to preparation of IC SEM cross-sections and metallographic samples plus a technique in the use of the PECS Slope Cutter. The course focuses on the Gatan PECS™, a dedicated multi-functional Broad Ion Beam Etching and Coating System. Additionally, the course will introduce participants to a totally NEW advanced plasma cleaning system for removal of hydrocarbon contamination on TEM and SEM samples, SOLARUS. The high performance now possible with the FESEM underscores the need for eliminating hydrocarbon contamination especially for those applications involving low voltage, high-resolution operation. Solarus is a new generation plasma system engineered on new concepts and the latest technology resulting in better performance, simplified use and consistent cleaning results.
